In the mid '60s 3 films were made in rapid succession ("Fantômas" 1964, "Fantômas se déchaîne" 1965, "Fantômas contre Scotland Yard" 1967), starring Jean Marais (of Cocteau's "La Belle et la Bête") in the double role of Lord of terror, Fantômas and journalist Fandor, Louis de Funes as commissaire Juve and Mylène Demongeot as Hélène. They are both wonderful movies. Very funny, intelligent, and a sophisticated humour. I think that both the series of "The Pink Panther" (Peter Sellers) or Austin Powers may have been inspired by Fantômas movies. They are must see.
