Talented artists created the outstanding box art that contributed to Aurora's model kits success. Aurora hired many freelance artists who later make a name for themselves. Among them, James Bama painted most of the monster kit box art. Known today as a fine artist working primarily in American Western art, James Bama was once part of a group of anonymous but talented illustrators (Frank Frazetta, Jack Davis) who helped to shape the look and direction of 20th century pop culture. It was Bama’s efforts for the Aurora Corporation that caught my eye and made him something of a cult figure. Since I collect Auroras and stay amazed by Bama's talent.
