Harry Dickson series was a Holmesian pastiche created in Germany in 1907 and hugely popular in France, Holland, and Germany. The great Jean Ray wrote a lot of Dickson stories. Here's a portrait of Dickson (French artist Jean-Michel Nicollet himself!), hand-signed by Nicollet-Dickson!
Harry Dickson is the best... Recently I read a great novel: The iron temple with sciences fictions elements!

ReplyDeleteAccording to James Monaco's book on Alain Resnais, Resnais tried for years to make a Dickson movie (with Dirk Bogarde in the title role, no less) but, sadly, was never able to get it off the ground.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Nice blogs.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who you guys are, but you seem to be some of the only Jean Ray/Harry Dickson "scholars" in the US! I just started a harry Dickson fanpage on facebook, and would love to meet other people to stimulate discussion and so on...does anybody know of any plans for future translations? Later this year when i have some time off I'd like to try translating some of the "Derniers Contes de Canterbury," and I wonder if enough interested people could collaborate on a project to translate at least some of the Dickson stories...
